Louis Philip Monte' was born November 5, 1925 in Broussard, La. to the late Saul Monte' and Maude Koenig Monte, and was one of four children. On Tuesday March 24, 2015 he peacefully passed away at his home, in Coteau, with the presence of his great family. That day he also officially retired from work at 4:05pm. For over 66 years Philip was a gifted watchmaker and a loving father. He was known to many as "Mr. Philip the Watchmaker."

By helping his community he served in the Coteau water system for many years and was one of the founders of the Coteau little league and sheriffs league. Like his wife, Mabel Monte, he was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church. There he served as a lay minister of communion for almost 50 years, while managing the cemetery at the same, and serving as a `4th degree Knight of Columbus. In 2012, Mr. Philip received the "Bishop's Service Appeal Award" for dedication and service to his church.

The things he loved doing was hunting, fishing, and talking about hunting and fishing. But what he truly loved the most was spending time with his family. Nothing made him happier than spending it with his wife Mabel and a house full of grandkids. He lived for his family and was lovingly surrounded by them in his last hours.

He was a veteran of WWII and served his country with honor in the Pacific Theatre.

Survivors include his 5 sons, Philip Monte' Jr. And fiancé Ranalda, Keith Monte' and wife Debbie, Michael Monte' and wife Mary, Randy Monte' and Mark Monte' and wife Devon; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister Aline Riche', and a brother Leon Monte'.

Along with his wife, Mabel Laperouse Monte', and his parents, he was preceded by his brother Jesse Paul Monte' and granddaughter Linzi Romero and great granddaughter Molly Salsman.

Pallbearers will be Cade, Matthew, Brandon,Jonathan, Chance, Marcus, Adrian, and Brennan Monte'. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Monte', Luke Salsman, Gregory Schwaner, Dustin Romero, Laythan Monte', Avery Leblanc, Brian Salsman, Ellis Latiola, and Zach LeBlanc.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of Mr. Philips care givers, and to St. Joseph Hospice, especially to his nurse Chris Cleveland.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Philips name to the Iberia Parish Council on Aging, 126 W Washington St., New Iberia, LA 70560.
